Mastering the Doughnut
Every Blender artist starts somewhere, and usually, it’s with a doughnut. But how do you take it from “beginner” to “portfolio-ready”?
1. Texture is Everything
Procedural textures are powerful, but don’t ignore image textures for realism. Adding a subtle fingerprint map to the icing can make it look edible.
2. subsurface Scattering (SSS)
Dough, icing, and sprinkles all let light pass through them slightly. Turn on SSS to avoid that “plastic” look.
3. Lighting Setup
Use a 3-point lighting setup, but emphasize the rim light to separate the doughnut from the background.
